Color Of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. We help people respond effectively to injustice in the world around us. As a national online force driven by over one million members, we move decision-makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America. We move members from analysis to action on crucial issues so that we can build the Black political power necessary to transform the written and unwritten rules of society. Color Of Change was founded in 2005 in response to the realization that during the crisis caused by Hurricane Katrina, as Black people were left stranded on their roofs to die, no one was afraid to disappoint Black people. When government, media, corporations and other decision makers are not afraid of to disappoint Black people, Black communities are negatively impacted and cannot move forward.



The Marketing & Storytelling team creates and leads the brand and content strategy necessary to translate and advance Color Of Change’s values, vision and efforts across a broad set of national influencers and grassroots activists. Through various platforms and mediums, the team is responsible for supporting efforts across the organization to deliver on our main promise: provoking the level and frequency of action from our members and allies that will force target decision makers to take action, and thereby achieve real world impact and lasting, systemic change. The team is also responsible for brand management, strategic content development, content distribution, and high-level media relations. Central to the Marketing & Storytelling team’s work is Color Of Change’s Hollywood Culture Project, an initiative designed to change the way Black people (and the issues we care about) are represented in entertainment media, and to effectively leverage cultural influencers in support our campaigns. 



Color Of Change is seeking a full-time Marketing & Engagement Manager to provide administrative and project management support for the Hollywood/LA Office. The right candidate will be committed to getting results in a fast-paced environment and be able to handle competing priorities. This position is ideal for a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in the field of racial justice. In supporting the Hollywood/LA Office, you will have a unique window into the inner workings of the movement.



The Marketing & Engagement Manager could be based out of our New York, Los Angeles, or Washington D.C. office and reports to the Sr. Director of Influencer Engagement. Job responsibilities are as follows:


Manage calendar and be an effective gatekeeper

  • Coordinate the schedule, with a strong understanding of priorities.
  • Ensure that meetings, deadlines, presentations, and other duties of the Hollywood/LA office are carried out seamlessly.
  • Make travel arrangements; coordinate flights, accommodations, and other itinerary specifics.
  • Position yourself as a gatekeeper to prioritize the time of Hollywood/LA Office Senior leaders, including taking internal and external requests for meetings (and in many cases diplomatically rejecting such requests).


Stakeholder Liaison

  • Serve as the liaison between the Hollywood/LA Office, external stakeholders and other parts of the organization.
  • Coordinate both internal and client facing meetings and conference calls, including setting up meeting rooms, ordering food, copying materials, prepping binders, ordering/checking AV equipment and other materials, etc.
  • Internally, you’ll often be assigned the task of rounding up information or coordinating amongst many groups. You’ll often be speaking for the staff you are supporting, but you’ll need to do it in a way that engenders staff respect.
  • Anticipate the team’s needs and proactively bring together appropriate people and resources to support the executive in addressing these issues.


Records and Reports

  • Ensure that receipts, per diem and reimbursements are filed in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain internal processes and systems and ensure all necessary functions are appropriately covered.
  • Create and/or revise Keynote and PowerPoint presentation decks and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Prepare correspondence for the Sr. Director of Influencer Engagement’s signature as well as initiate high level of correspondence on their behalf.
  • Develop and edit documents with limited information and minimal guidance; ensure Sr. Director of Influencer Engagement is apprised of all relevant issues that are pending her review.


Events & Special Projects

  • In partnership with Development team, implement a communications plan to keep in regular contact with influencer donors on COC campaigns and issue areas they are most passionate about as well as key organizational developments.
  • Support and collaborate with Development team to create and implement small to modest size cultivation events such as salons or briefings, and activities that may require time before and after business hours --ensuring they operate smoothly, efficiently, and generate maximum revenue and exposure.

  • Adaptable and Flexible- You can handle any curveball, and in face, you expect them. You can meet deadlines and manage competing priorities. Additionally, you are strategic and have the ability to pivot quickly as priorities shift and the team continues to take shape. You can and are willing to travel if needed.


What You Will Need:

  • Professional Experience: You have 3-5 years of professional experience, including working with high-level influencers and executives, event planning, Marketing experience and/or Entertainment background.
  • You will need to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters and relationships of great significance.
  • Mission Alignment: You have enthusiasm, familiarity and demonstrated alignment with Color of Change’s mission and campaigns and also a commitment to building/ deepening your commitment to racial justice. You are steadfast in your support of COC’s long-term sustainability and are committed to a career with impact.
