Color Of Change is the nation’s largest online racial justice organization. We help people respond effectively to injustice in the world around us. As a national online force driven by over one million members, we move decision makers in corporations and government to create a more human and less hostile world for Black people in America. We activate our members to take action on crucial issues—from criminal justice to media representations to the social safety net and voter freedom—so that we can build the power necessary to transform the written and unwritten rules of society. Color Of Change was founded in 2005 in response to the realization that during Hurricane Katrina—as Black people were left stranded on their roofs to die—no one was afraid of disappointing Black people because there were no consequences for doing so. Every day, we work to build the infrastructure, leadership, strategies and savvy that will create consequences for racial injustice, and build momentum for implementing solutions that move Black people and all people forward.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

We are expanding our team of outstanding content creators and social activists to help Color Of Change build, manage, execute, assess and report on results-driven digital campaigns that increase Black power. Candidates must have strong skills in the creation and curation of strategic content, multi-channel propagation and performance tracking, online engagement, project management and internal team communication. Our ideal candidate is ready to onboard swiftly, and will work within a multi-disciplinary team of designers, content creators and campaigners focused on one or more products or projects.

Day-to-day, you will be responsible for working with our team to create and move content across our web properties, channels and networks; monitor and improve content performance; deploy social activations with target segments (both established and prospective); and engage our passionate members and audiences in a way that increases interest, connection, community and strategic action.

 

The main responsibilities of the position are:

  • Craft, curate, publish and manage social media content
  • Track and analyze data metrics for performance improvements and KPI weekly reporting
  • Contribute to and implement digital content and engagement strategy based on organization’s campaign goals and emerging opportunities
  • Align all content and engagement efforts with the COC brand narrative, personality and tone, while helping to forward a relevant, fresh range of voices for different venues and purposes
  • Consistently develop and deploy content marketing and social media activation best practices, with savvy for leveraging new and emerging platforms, tools, trends and partnerships
  • Manage content calendar according to both evergreen and topical cultural, industry and political happenings, opportunities and developments
  • Assist Director as needed, including and not excluding content process development, the integration of emerging tools and methods throughout the organization, etc.

 

COMPETENCES/SKILLS REQUIRED

Specialist Skills & Requirements

Essential

  • Proven success as a content manager
  • Experience managing, publishing, and reporting with social media platforms such as Sprout, HootSuite, Sprnklr and Falcon iO
  • Proven excellence activating and engaging new communities, while managing a range of existing communities across social media channels
  • Hands on experience with MS Office, Excel and WordPress
  • Knowledge of meaningful SEO, web traffic and social platform metrics
  • Excellent English writing skills
  • Strong attention to detail and process
  • Stellar organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to respond successfully under tight deadlines
  • Ability to establish highly productive relationships with a vibrant, diverse, distributed staff

 

Desirable

  • Experience with basic graphic design such as Canva or basic Illustrator
  • Experience with email marketing
  • Experience managing social media team-building activities
  • Experience managing both rapid-development short-term and complex long-term projects
  • Basic working knowledge of basic HTML and web publishing
  • Experience using and creating content for gamification and sponsorship driven platforms like WooBox, Splash, OfferPop, Fan Core or Cheerity

Compensation
